FAQ

What is a natural tanning agent?

Most ordinary tanners work with the chemical DHA that has been found to dry the skin or cause it to become patchy. Skinny Tan products use a natural tanning agent derived from the seeds of the Brassica napus plant instead. The active ingredient works naturally with the amino acids in the skin to create the darkening reaction for a natural-looking tan.

What is Guarana?

Skinny Tan includes Guarana, a caffeine derivative that is an important ingredient in the most popular firming and cellulite creams. It is Guarana’s high caffeine content that can help stimulate a process to visibly reduce the appearance of cellulite at the surface of the skin. Also, tanned cellulite always looks better than white cellulite; so, by tanning with Skinny Tan, you get the double benefit with one application. As we say at Skinny Tan: if you can’t tone it - tan it!

Can I use Skinny Tan if I don’t have cellulite and am already thin?

Absolutely yes! The smoothing, tightening and disguising effect works best on people who have the white ‘cottage cheese’ effect, but will not cause any harm to people who are already smooth and cellulite-free. Essentially, Skinny Tan is the very best of self tanners due to the natural color, delicious smell, streak-free finish and the use of a gentle, natural tanning agent.

How long will Skinny Tan color last?

Skinny Tan 7-day tanner is a deep long-lasting tan. Results will vary from person to person and, like a real tan, depends much on how your skin naturally exfoliates. The typical time is 5-7 days and the time can be lengthened by using the Skinny Tan Pre-Tan Primer and the Skinny Tan After Glow Gloss. If you prefer to build your tan daily, try Skinny Tan Gradual Tanner. If you like to be able to wash your tan right off, then choose our 24-hour Bronzer.

Can I use Skinny Tan on my face?

Yes! Skinny Tan is a gentle formula, made with a natural tanning agent and naturally-derived skin smoothing that will give a gorgeous tan and natural improvement to your face as well as your body.

If I get my tan in the morning, can I take a shower that night?

For the deepest, most natural, and longest-lasting tan, we advise you to leave your Skinny Tan on overnight. If you do have to shower while waiting for your full color to develop, please wait at least 5 hours before washing.

Can I put makeup on after I tan?

Yes. It is recommended to wait a few hours before applying it, though. You can use any makeup, although you may need to go a shade or two darker with your foundation. Keep in mind that Skinny Tan tanner and After Glow Gloss provide such a gorgeous, even, and natural tanning effect that it also hides blemishes. You shouldn’t need to use a foundation makeup at all.

How can I help my tan last longer?

At Skinny Tan we have done a great deal of research on how to get a longer-lasting effect. Our formula was made to absorb extremely well, and to last longer. However, following a good skin care regimen before and after sunless tanning will help the tan last even longer. Our Pre-Tan Primer works to exfoliate old skin cells, so that only new skin cells are tanned. This will mean that the skin's natural exfoliation will take longer.

Another helpful technique is to keep the skin hydrated with our 24-hour After Glow Finishing Gloss.

What is the 'instant guide' tan?

Skinny Tan 7-Day Tanner includes an instant cosmetic bronzer that allows you to see color as you are apply the tanner. This means that you are instantly tanned and ready to go out the door, already brown. 5-8 hours later, the long-lasting active tanning agent will begin to develop. The instant cosmetic color washes off, revealing the long-lasting color beneath, which remains for up to 7 days. If you prefer tanners without an instant guide bronzer, then choose Skinny Tan Gradual Tanner, a white cream that develops into a light natural tan.

Why is it important to use the Skinny Tan After Glow Gloss?

It is important to keep skin moisturized after sunless tanning as dry, flaky skin will slough off more quickly, and color will fade sooner. You want to slow down your skin’s natural exfoliation process. The After Glow Gloss will also highlight your tan, and you will see that glossy "airbrush effect" you see on models in photographs.

How long after tanning should I wait to enjoy a pool/spa/ocean?

We recommend avoiding these situations for the first 48 hours following Skinny Tan application. Chlorinated pools & spas can increase the rate in which the skin exfoliates, causing the tan to wear and fade.

Can I use Skinny Tan when pregnant?

Skinny Tan is non-toxic, and has been manufactured from quality ingredients to the highest Australian standards, and is not known to have any detrimental effects on an expectant mother.

However, if women use any tanning sprays, or a spray-tanning booth, they may inhale some of the vapors. There is no evidence to know how breathing in ANY tanning spray will affect an unborn baby. To be on the safe side during pregnancy, Skinny Tan would suggest using cream-based tanning only AND to check with your physician before using any of our products.

If I have sensitive skin, should I be concerned about a possible reaction?

Skinny Tan uses a naturally-sourced tanning agent from seeds and naturally derived firming ingredients, so it is less likely to cause a reaction. However, every sensitive skin condition is different, so it is best to patch test first on a small area before completing a full tanning application if you are concerned

Tip No 3 - Layer to get the most natural shade

Never choose a tanner that calls itself ‘dark’ unless you already have naturally darker skin. It is far better to choose a medium natural shade like Skinny Tan and apply a few times to get the darker shade you like, slowly and naturally. Skinny Tan self-tanners will build like a natural tan and fade like a natural tan. Each application layer will take the skin tone two shades darker than the layer before.
